How Time Zone Conversion Works

Time zone conversion is based on the difference in UTC offsets between locations. The formula is:

Target Time = Source Time + (Target UTC Offset - Source UTC Offset)

Where:

  • Source Time is the original time you want to convert
  • Source UTC Offset is the time difference from UTC at the source location
  • Target UTC Offset is the time difference from UTC at the target location

For example, converting 3:00 PM from New York (UTC-5) to Pakistan (UTC+5):

Pakistan Time = 3:00 PM + (5 - (-5)) = 3:00 PM + 10 hours = 1:00 AM (next day)

Note: Some locations observe Daylight Saving Time, which temporarily changes their UTC offset.
